Wine Walk South Africa

Day 1

Wine Walk South Africa, this is our popular 4 night option. We have a choice of two, three and  four night options to choose from depending on how much time you have available. Arrive in the “Heaven & Earth” Valley; this is wine country, famous for wine tasting. The Hemel en Aarde wine valley is part of the Western Cape wine region, it’s guaranteed to please the most discerning wine enthusiast.  The Hamilton Russell story is a remarkable one. Back in 1975, advertising executive Tim Hamilton-Russell bought 170 hectares (400 acres) of undeveloped land not far from Hermanus, and only a short distance from the cold Atlantic ocean. Its in the Hemel en Aarde valley that your wine walk takes place, strolling through orchards, horse farms and vineyards, enjoying wine tastings at various estates.

Check in to your 4-star cottage on a beautiful Nguni farm in the heart of the Cape Floral Kingdom. Our comfortable 4 star accommodation within walking distance of many of the valleys award winning wine estates. A scenic, mostly downhill & easy walk from the top of Rotary Way though aromatic mountain fynbos to sample the fruit of Hamilton Russell‘s Estate vineyard.

Hamilton Russell is one of the most southerly wine Estates in Africa on the Wine Walk 4 night walk and pioneered viticulture & wine making in the Hemel & Aarde Valley. Then take a leisurely stroll to Bouchard Finlayson, globally acclaimed for producing the best Pinot Noir in South Africa as well as exceptional Chardonnays’ & Sauvignon Blancs. Their deli platter will not disappoint as you enjoy the beautiful garden setting.

Option A

This day is spent exploring the old harbour town of Hermanus. The legendary cliff path is famous for excellent shore-based whale viewing and breathtaking coastal scenery. Hermanus was recently voted 1 in the world for the best land based whale viewing destination.  We pop in to the historical Tea Garden for tea & scones with a view.  Interesting sights amongst others that are worth a visit are the Old whaling station Harbour, War Memorial, Whale & photographic museums, African market and numerous art galleries. Wine & Company is where we get a taste of wine from independent wine-makers & boutique estates.

Hoys Koppie is worth a climb for some interesting fynbos, a middle stone-age cave and panoramic views from the top (or one can shop). When were thirsty again we settle into The Wine Glass – 106 local wines (10 bubblies), all available by the glass with seasonal local cuisine to compliment the wine. Discover all the wines of the Overberg region.

                                                                                                                                                                           (Leisurely 5-10km)

Option B

A day with very little walking

A visit to the Hermanpietersfontein Food & Wine Market with its cheerful atmosphere and tempting gourmet food is a highlight. Taste the different varietals; browse a selection of cheese & charcuterie to make up a personalised tasting plate. Perlemoen, oysters and home baked goods are available as well as an excellent olive tasting table.  We visit Whalehaven Winery for another sensory journey with an indulgent chocolate & wine tasting in their unique wine experience center.  A visit to Hermanus is not complete with exploring the Wine Village and taking some time out to taste fynbos gin.
