Day 1
Our Hermanus wine-walk 4 night option. Arrive in the “Heaven & Earth” Valley, this is wine country, famous for world renowned wine estates, and their wine tasting. The Hemel en Aarde wine valley is part of the Western Cape wine region, it’s guaranteed to please the most discerning wine enthusiast, because of the many options available. Check in to your 4-star cottage on a beautiful working farm in the heart of the Cape Floral Kingdom. Yhe farm has an ever increasing in size herd on Nguni cattle. Our comfortable 4 star accommodation within walking distance of many of the valleys award winning wine estates. A scenic, mostly downhill & easy walk from the top of Rotary Way though aromatic mountain fynbos to sample the fruit of Hamilton Russell‘s Estate vineyard.
Hamilton Russell is one of the most southerly wine Estates in Africa on the Wine Walk 4 night walk option, Tim Hamelton Russell pioneered viticulture & wine making in the Hemel & Aarde Valley. Then take a leisurely stroll to Bouchard Finlayson, globally acclaimed for producing the best Pinot Noir in South Africa as well as exceptional Chardonnays’ & Sauvignon Blancs. Their deli platter will not disappoint as you enjoy the beautiful garden setting.
Wine Walk 4 night
Day 2
Enjoy breakfast on day two of your Hermanus wine walk at the historic Plaaskombuis before we stretch our legs on the limestone slopes of the Cape fold belt mountains. This route takes us from La Vierge Winery along a downhill fynbos path to the De Bos dam and then on to the Frame House at Bosman Hermanus vineyards. Here we treat ourselves to a true ‘glamping picnic’ enjoyed with Bosman wine. For the energetic there is a well laid out Koppie & Wetlands trail to explore and epic valley views from the top of the Koppie.

Day 3
On day three of your Hermanus wine walk, in a beautiful garden setting, we enjoy a picnic breakfast before stretching our legs on one of the most scenic and diverse walking routes in the valley. We walk through the vineyards of Hasher Family Estate 104 acres nestling within 2 imposing mountain ranges in the Upper Hemel & Aarde Valley. The trail winds along country roads and single tracks, through horse stud and berry farms with some magnificent mountain scenery en route to the renowned Moggs Country Restaurant. A short walk into the valley takes us to our magnificent country house accommodation. (Distance 7-8 km)
Day 4
Hermanus wine walk
Walking from the guest house we explore the base of the Babylonstoren mountain range through some marvelous vegetation to Ataraxia. The lovely vineyard and fynbos ramble in the Kleinrivier Mountain range valley from Ataraxia wine farm, through an olive farm to Spookfontein boutique Wine Estate. We settle into the restaurant for lunch paired with their sensational wine. (Distance -easy 9 km)
DAY 5
Option A
So this day is spent exploring the old harbour town of Hermanus. The legendary cliff path is famous for excellent shore-based whale viewing and breathtaking coastal scenery. Hermanus was recently voted 1 in the world for the best land based whale viewing destination. We pop in to the historical Tea Garden for tea & scones with a view. Interesting sights amongst others that are worth a visit are the Old whaling station Harbour, War Memorial, Whale & photographic museums, African market and numerous art galleries. Wine & Company is where we get a taste of wine from independent wine-makers & boutique estates.
Hoys Koppie is worth a climb for some interesting fynbos, a middle stone-age cave and panoramic views from the top (or one can shop). When were thirsty again we settle into The Wine Glass – 106 local wines (10 bubblies), all available by the glass with seasonal local cuisine to compliment the wine. Discover all the wines of the Overberg region.

A day with very little walking
A visit to the Hermanpietersfontein Food & Wine Market with its cheerful atmosphere and tempting gourmet food is a highlight. Taste the different varietals; browse a selection of cheese & charcuterie to make up a personalised tasting plate. Perlemoen, oysters and home baked goods are available as well as an excellent olive tasting table. We visit Whalehaven Winery for another sensory journey with an indulgent chocolate & wine tasting in their unique wine experience center. A visit to Hermanus is not complete with exploring the Wine Village and taking some time out to taste fynbos gin.
